Archive for November, 2012

I just added this little leather clutch to the shop, and wanted to let you know here, in case one of you would like to snatch one up at a discount.

It’s being sold at a discounted price, as I’m not satisfied with the quality of the stitching, and the right edge isn’t perfectly straight.┬áThis is only aesthetic, and is something one would probably hardly notice. You are your own worst critic though, yes? :)

It’s made with a super soft auburn leather, and has a brass stud closure. A classic, attractive style that would serve well as a wallet, a case for cosmetics, or a sleeve for your smart phone.

Available here.

monday sale!

So… I have been debating whether or not to have a sale this weekend for at least a week. Truth is, I don’t even want to HEAR the words “Black Friday,” or even “Cyber Monday” for that matter. I am, on some levels, at odds with the whole frenzy. But I have to admit, even we took advantage of some amazing Black Friday sales, and got a few (yes, a few, oh my) new large appliances we have really been wanting/needing for a while. These sales were super exciting for us, and our new additions will raise our quality of life and make our home life more efficient and more pleasant.

In the end, my decision to have a sale really boils down to those supportive, and often very quiet, ones of you out there, who I know might be waiting or hoping or just plain wondering if maybe (a couple of you even emailed me, which I actually found so endearing) I might have a sale on THE biggest sale weekend of the entire year.

So, without any further rambling, if you have your eye on something in the shop for yourself or another, save 12% off your order by using the discount code holiday2012. When you enter it in the box during checkout, just be sure to press “apply.” This sale is valid until midnight on Monday, November 26.

Thank you so much for supporting my handmade business. It has helped make my life what it is today. I am so appreciative of all of you. I wish I could express that more!

I am feelin’ that holiday buzz. It starts out so quietly, sneaks up (seemingly) so slowly, and then suddenly – hellllo, it is here! This year I am trying to take it in slowly, enjoy this time, soak up the amazing fresh air of late autumn, and not get completely lost in the exciting rush of work that comes at this time of year. And have you noticed how happy everyone seems right now? Is it that way where you are? I swear, I met eyes and shared smiles with more people than I can count this weekend, while out running simple errands. That is so unlike the average day in town here (sadly). And as for decking the halls and all that stuff, I admit it – I love twinkly lights, I love to hang a wreath, and I love to gather fir branches and pine cones to bring inside.

Happy Holidays friends, how ever it is you enjoy this time of year.

I’ll be adding a few new items to the shop tomorrow, and thought I’d share a little sneak peek before I head back up to the studio.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends. I hope your day has been relaxing and full of things you love.

We are in quite a windy rain storm, and I think it’s here to stay a little while longer. I sat down to do a little blogging this afternoon, for the first time in almost a month, and the power went out. It was down for just a few hours, but this has us working on preparedness for the season. Our camp stove and propane is now handy, candles are out, batteries are charging, and gallons of water are in the freezer. Last year’s near 2 week outage was quite a wake up call.

While the power was out, I prepped some leather for making wallets. Once it got too dark to work upstairs anymore, I set myself up at the dining table to do some hand stitching.

I managed to finish one of them, and I immediately filled it with the contents of the card wallet I made myself a couple months ago. I actually hadn’t meant to keep it, but I think it’s here to stay :)

I have been using the original (which was machine stitched) constantly for about 9 weeks, and it’s already developing a beautiful patina. A couple weeks ago I added the tab closure to it, to keep my cash more secure. I appreciate the simple design, and love the feel of it in my hand. Here it is when it was first completed. And below shows it after about 2 months of use.

There will be some hand stitched versions available in the shop soon.

While I sat at the table stitching, Steven and I talked and watched a big flock of tiny pine siskins take shelter on our deck. As much as a power outage can be a lousy inconvenience, there is just as much about them that I appreciate. The quieter time away from our machines and technology is pretty refreshing.

I hope all is well out there.

I won’t be gone so long this time…
